“Imagine that you hold a tangled ball of yarn in your hands. We can call this ball, ‘life.’ Sometimes our ball of yarn gets tangled and knotted. Over time, circumstances and situations come up in our lives that are connected to the yarn. Because we never untied those knots when they occurred…the tangle just keeps getting bigger and bigger, messier, and messier. Eventually, we find ourselves stuck in these knots. We can’t move forward because we never went backward by talking about and processing through how these knots got there in the first place. It’s OK to take a time out to untangle and figure out how our yarn got that way. When you are ready, we can begin to rummage through the messy ball of yarn and search for the ends. Little by little, we will unravel and untangle. We may encounter knots along the way – some looser and some tighter. Together, we will stop at those knotted places, gently untie them, and continue to untangle the thread”.
