Dr. Allen is a double board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. He completed his medical education and general psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, followed by a child psychiatry fellowship at New York Presbyterian-Columbia & Cornell. Additionally, he spent a post-fellowship year with the Canterbury District Health Board in Christchurch, New Zealand.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Allen works with patients of all ages with a primary focus on children, adolescents, and young adults. His style (+/- medication management) incorporates a blend of CBT, ACT, MI, and coaching, and he has a specific interest in anxiety, eating disorders, and athlete mental health and wellness. In fact, he has extensive sport-specific training, having earned the International Olympic Committee’s Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sport, and he currently serves as the Chairman of the American Board of Sports & Performance Psychiatry (ABSPP). Dr. Allen has a passion for promoting sports participation as an important (and healthy) component of youth development, and he is a contributor to the youth sports mental performance platform, MaxU.
Dr. Allen resides in Denver, Colorado, and—in his spare time—he enjoys playing golf, soccer, pickle ball, hiking, and spending time with his wife, 2 sons, and fur-kids.
