Mónica is a Latina, immigrant, licensed counselor who specializes in working with immigrants and communities of color. Mónica obtained her counseling degree from Johns Hopkins University and has focused her career on breaking down stigma around mental health and to normalize seeking help when life gets tough. Mónica works from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach and borrows some techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-centered Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Therapy (MBSR).
Mónica believes you are the expert in your life story and working collaboratively during the therapeutic process will lead to accomplishing your goals. She is open to hearing what has worked for you and using that feedback to make the therapeutic process more productive.
