Alexa Sauro, LMHC, has cultivated clinical experience in various settings, including a college crisis center, private practice, as well as residential and day treatment centers, to support individuals experiencing a variety of mental health diagnoses and other life stressors (relationship/sexuality issues, self-esteem, life transitions, grief). She earned both her bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and her Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the State University of New York at New Paltz, while simultaneously completing a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy at UAlbany.
Alexa believes in each individual’s unique capacity for growth and healing, and seeks to establish warm therapeutic relationships grounded in collaboration and empowerment. She finds it important to acknowledge that healing is a journey tied to environmental, political, social, and economic factors, and believes it is her responsibility as a therapist to hold each client within the larger context of their lived experiences. Utilizing psychodynamic theories, alongside interventions of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Expressive Arts, she aims to approach each client with empathy and non-judgmental curiosity, to uncover the root of their challenges, and how to better fulfill their needs and reach their goals.
